Local Government
Local government has the primary role in providing information about waste management and recycling directly to households and ratepayers.
Individual councils provide the infrastructure to deal with municipal waste, however the way in which waste and recyclables are collected differs from one council to the next.
The Waste Authority and Department of Environment and Conservation work with local government to:
- promote the 'Towards Zero Waste' vision
- deliver a consistent message to the public
- support and complement existing programs
- maintain their primary role in waste management.
For more information about specific councils please visit the Western Australian Local Government Portal.
The Municipal Waste Advisory Council
The Municipal Waste Advisory Council is a standing committee of the Western Australian Local Government Association.
The Municipal Waste Advisory Council is actively involved in:
- the statewide co-ordination of recycling issues
- the review of waste management legislation
- the production of position papers on waste management
- the promotion of Integrated Resource Recovery techniques.
