Federal Government
The Environment Protection and Heritage Council
The Environment Protection and Heritage Council (EPHC) was formed following changes to natural resource and environment related Ministerial Councils agreed by the Council of Australian Governments in June 2001.
EPHC was created by amalgamating the National Environment Protection Council (NEPC), the environment protection components of the Australian and New Zealand Environment and Conservation Council (ANZECC), and Heritage Ministers' Meetings.
The Council has a range of environmental responsibilities, including the minimisation and management of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes, including product stewardship.
Department of the Environment and Heritage
The Australian Government Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA) develops and implements national policy, programs and legislation to protect and conserve Australia's natural environment and cultural heritage.
The DEH develops and coordinates a range of programs to reduce waste, either by encouraging material efficiency, reducing the generation of waste, or enabling the recovery and reuse of discarded material.
